Discover a different side of Cyprus on a Varosha ghost town tour from Ayia Napa and Protaras. Travel with The Original Red Bus and spend approximately 2½ hours inside the accessible area of this abandoned seaside resort, with a historical introduction and the freedom to explore independently. Empty hotels overlook the Mediterranean, while former shopping streets offer glimpses of a place once filled with holidaymakers. Walking through Varosha brings the island's recent history into view in a way that photographs alone cannot. Your guide introduces the background to the resort's closure following the conflict of 1974 and explains how to make the most of your visit. Once inside, follow the complimentary map through the permitted streets, stop for photographs where allowed and choose a route that suits your interests. The team is available within the resort for directions and assistance. Spend your free time exploring, pause for a drink by the beach or bring swimwear for an optional dip in a designated bathing area, subject to conditions and local access. An optional mobile guide adds historical photographs and audio commentary for €5 per phone. For travellers who enjoy discovering the stories behind a destination, this half-day excursion adds a thoughtful and memorable experience to a Cyprus holiday.
